Lanzarote is an island with a unique style and property market. Strict building laws have preserved the original feel of the island and prevented over development.
The house market in Lanzarote has survived relatively well due to the islands strict building laws. This slowed development in better times so there is no glut of empty buildings at the moment. The three main areas in Lanzarote for property sales are:-
 1 - Puerto del Carmen receives by far the most tourist traffic on Lanzarote. A large amount of tourists need more facilities and accommodation. Out of all areas of the island property for sale in Puerto del Carmen enjoys the greates activity. Puerto del Carmen was the islands first tourist resort for good reason. The weather is impeccable as are the selection of beaches. This holiday destination stretches along the coast so no matter where you buy an apartment or house you will be within a short walk to the beach. To the south of Puerto del Carmen is the old town fishing harbour. The fishing harbour is why the town came into being. These days the harbour takes up only a small part of the whole. At the northern end of Puerto del Carmen is Los Pocillos beach some 4 kilometres to the north of the harbour. On the cliffs just south or the harbour some of the most expensive villas can be found. Most properties comprise of small apartments or studios on complexes.
 2 - Playa Blanca is located on the southern tip of Lanzarote. As Puerto de Carmen it originated as a fishing village. Due to its unique character Playa Blanca has been taken into the hearts of many of its visitors. There is a very wide selection of property for sale in Playa Blanca. There are several distinct areas to Playa Blanca with regards to the types of properties built. In the centre of town there is a pedestrian only shopping precinct with the majority of properties being smaller apartments. Along the coast west and east from the town centre their are a number of very nice complexes with apartments, ideal for short term rentals. These normally have communal facilities and a community fee is payable for the upkeep of shared areas. Further out of the centre of Playa Blanca beyond the ferry port, house sizes grow larger as more space is available. All along Playa Blanca's coastline is a great promenade that stretches from Las Colorados to the east right over to Faro Park at the western extreme of Playa Blanca. There are excellent beaches in town and the stunning golden sand beaches of Papagayo.
 3 - Costa Teguise is a purpose built holiday destination. Due to the pre planning of its layout access is very good. Local facilities include the islands only Aquapark, a golf course and some great beaches. The placing of property for sale in Costa Teguise is nicely scattered in nature. Frontline villas in Costa Teguise can be found at the front of several complexes. The towns main centre is around the Las Cucharas beach although there are several other epicentres with great facilities and a more personal feel.
Lanzarote's cultural identity has changed vastly over the last thirty years. Tourism has changed a poor rural community into a financially prosperous location. On the back of the islands popularity with holiday makers has grown many other sectors, one of the largest being property. As standards of living have risen across the world a second home in the sun is now within reach of many. The dream apartment in Puerto del Carmen can be a reality and even a sound investment.
